asks:
Hey bro, why'd you decide to go vegan?

yo, mainly for ethical reasons. I was already not having much dairy anyway, I never buy eggs and I was starting to get annoyed with myself for advocating animal rights whilst also consuming vast amounts of meat.

Weeks 1&2

So, these first two weeks of veganism have had their ups and downs….=S

I decided to become vegan the night before I was due to head to Hamilton for a music competition, where the food was being provided. It was too late to do anything about it so I just rolled along with that until Wednesday. At that point, I took some positive steps in staying off meat and dairy by only buying vegan products when I was out and about. Unfortunately, I’ve eaten out heaps these past two weeks so I’ve STILL got that tray of mince in my freezer and I had to eat some beef tonight…I’m probably going to sell the mince to my friends because it will take me two weeks to finish it off properly with how often I don’t eat at home!

However, I did make myself an awesome vegan bolognese which I’ve been taking to uni as a lunch meal so that has been really yum and satisfying =) my vegan friend also posted a post on how to make your own nutmilk on Facebook today too so I’m going to have a go at that soon.

I’ve had mixed reactions from my friends, but they’ve all been either positive or neutral, ie no one seriously challenged my views negatively, however I did have some intelligent debate with a few.

So basically, My Path to Veganism has started out rocky but hopefully there will only be smooth roads ahead! =D

My path to Veganism - Intro

Hello everyone!

I’ve been an avid supporter of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand and many other Green groups for a while now. However, I have only really shown that I believe in what they are saying, not that I am committed to actually changing my lifestyle to help improve the planet. So, I’ve finally decided to actually do stuff instead of talking about it! Part of that quest is becoming vegan. It will be a hard road, but I think that will make the rewards that much more satisfying.

I only just went to the supermarket the other day so I still have some meat to get through. I’ve decided this is an opportunity to ‘ween myself off’ instead of going cold turkey, which in my case is probably a good option. Thankfully, I don’t buy milk or cheese anyway so now I just need to see what other everyday products contain dairy and figure out what alternatives are available. Any help would be greatly appreciated! =) feel free to email me at gerainmusic@gmail.com with any tips! Just put vegan tips as the subject line so my filter can put them all in one place.

I’ll update my progress in a week!
